The first complaints about this situation began in 2013. PayPal needs to have someone conducting an investigation into this. I'm sorry this is a novel but I want to give a solid description of how all of this went down and hopefully stop someone else from making a mistake. I put the phone on mute while I shut down all my cards, changed PayPal passwords etc. I played along with him while i called my bank on cellphone. Something along the line of "dear PayPal user, we have deposited 150$ on Google play card." The moment I got the text, I knew it was a scam. I said "cant you just email it?" and he said yes, I will but first can you confirm the text I sent?" I said "send it to my cell phone!" And I gave him my cell. I said "yes the one that ends in xxxx" He then said "ok for security purposes I'm going to send you a text message to the number on file, the 555-555-555 correct?" I started getting annoyed because the number on file was a home phone and I dont have cell service here. You have multiple cards on file." He then said last 4 digits of my two seperate debit cards. I'm going to refund the money but first I need to verify which card you would like the money refunded to. (Last name) i see you have gone through alot of trouble. I then spoke with a man who said "ok, let me check. I told him I needed to speak about a dispute and he said he needed to transfer me to billing dept. I called and a man answered (no automatons like real PayPal). It brought up the Google recommended number which I verified also off the PayPal website just to make sure. I needed to contact PayPal due to a dispute. I am VERY savvy when it comes to online financial info and I ALMOST fell for this! So these phishing attempts are highly sophisticated. The scam involves Google play store cards. There has been some type of breach that PayPal is NOT disclosing to consumers. (These scammers knew I had multiple cards on file, my phone number and first and last name!) Someone inside PayPal is helping the scammers and selling information they have available. When I contacted the REAL PayPal they verified that this IS there number but couldn't explain how I dialed it and ended up in the hands of scammers. *I googled "contact PayPal" it brought up this number- 1-88. I have contacted several different entities about this. So, I have been on something of a personal mission lately and want to share my story. The time of day you call can significantly affect both the wait time, and which call center (domestic or off-shore) you reach. Once you do it you will be connected with a live customer service representative (typical waiting time is about 1 hour 20 minutes – 1 hour 50 minutes). Then enter 2 and say “speak to the a representative”. How to talk to a Live Person in PayPal Customer Service To call when you can't log in: "Call us as a Guest" Have you called support yet? If not consider it! PayPal Customer Service 88 M-F (5:00 AM – 10:00 PM PT) Sat-Sun (6:00 AM – 8:00 PM PT) PayPal has a support number, and does provide reasonably good support. Remember:Īlways mention what country you are in! Different countries have different rules. This is necessary to limit both spam and scams. Usually only Imgur and similar links will be approved. No non-PayPal/Imgur links without prior approval. Do not post SPAM or SCAM posts! Immediate ban for any of these! NOTICE: There is no PayPal protection for Friends and Family transactions!
